Kite Tail Technique - DT Tutorial by Pearl

Hi! Pearl here to share a fun tutorial to use those awesome bow-tie prints in the Bow Ties Overlay! They're perfect for making a kite tail of bows as well as adding to a picture for a funny photo embellishment.

Supplies:
Hambly Lattice Pattern Paper
Hambly Bow Tie Overlay

How To Add a Bow Tie to Any Picture:
Use Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue Pen to adhere a bow tie to any picture without any of the adhesive residue to show through the overlay.

Directions to Making a Kite Tail:
1. Cut several bow ties from the Bow Tie Overlay.
2. Use removable tape to temporarily adhere the bow ties to the base cardstock.

3. Sew in a wavy pattern connecting the middle of the bows.

Hello friends....Jen here, and today I am sharing a card using rub-ons.

I love the cute designs of the Hambly rub-ons,....but have you ever noticed the little flourish in the corner?

It’s on every sheet, and I certainly did not want it to go to waste!  The dainty little flourish is the perfect size to use on wood letters:



Now that I have a cute sentiment for my card, I went to work on the rest of the design.  I penciled in some lines on this great Peacock Feather paper as a guide for stitching.

For my second step-by-step, I wanted to celebrate with you a party I organized in the end of December for our children and their friends.
I created some decorations just for fun and they really loved them !
Every child could keep his rosette and little flags like a little gift.
Material :
You only need some sheets of papers (Hambly of course), glue, wood's stick, some buttons, punches and your Big Shot.
 
For the rosettes :
Step 1 : Choose different patterned papers
For my 6 children I used 6 pieces of Hambly's paper. I cut them to 12x3.5 inches.

Step 2 : Use your Big Shot to create rosettes
Cut 6 rosettes and glue them delicately. You can add buttons and brads to embellish them.
Step 3 : Print the names with your computer
You can use stamps or your favorite type. Cut the paper differently.
 


 
Step 4 : Glue the rosettes
Yours rosettes are now ready, you can fix them with the wood. I only use a masking tape to fit together.

For the little flags :
I use them just to decorate the chocolate's muffins. You just need little sheets of Hambly's patterned papers, wood's stick, glue and scissors.
 
Step 5 : Create colorful flags
You just need to cut rectangles. Put the wood with the glue in the middle of the paper and fold it.
Cut several flags for more fancy.

It's very easy to realize and you can create without lots of materials and very quickly!

Handmade Embellishments

Hi everyone, this is Felicitas. Did everyone start with an amazing new year, I hope so :D

Today I want to show you a very simple technique to create your own dimensional embellishments...ok let’s start:

All you need is Hambly’s gorgeous papers, rub-ons and your favorite overlays.
Supply list: Mini Bicycles HP420, Lattice HO834, , Hearts R525, Washi Tape #4 DT104, Scissors, needle and thick thread...

Step1: Cut off a piece of paper you want to have as the base of your embellishment. My stripe is 1.5 inches wide. Place two stripes of washi tape on the paper. Make sure that tape will not be 100% horizontal to the paper. An angle will give your object more interest. 

 

Step 2: Turn the paper around and draw an random object on it. Make sure that your drawing is on the back side of the tape. So the washi will placed in the middle of the future object. I did a heart shape, but any other object would be possible. Cut your shape out.

Step 3: Take a needle and a white thread and start sewing around your shape. You can also use your sewing machine for that step, but I like this bold thread and the handstitched look for this technique.

 

Step 4: Take your overlay and cut out a matching shape to your stitched paper. Fold it in half and place it in on top of the paper. I wrapped some washi stripes around it because of the next step ;)

Step 5:  Take your sewing machine, using a short stitch sew a straight line in the middle of your shape. You can also stitch this freehand. Then tape around the overlay make sure that the layers don’t get out of place while you’re stitching.

 

Step 6: That’s it. Place a cute matching rub-on on the overlay and spread the overlay sides like wings. You created a customized dimensional embellishment out of your favorite Hambly products.

Now, you can incorporate your shape into your crafting project. I created a scrapbooking layout about my answer of the most important question ever ;)

Hello and Happy New Year everyone!
 
Today I am going to share with you something that I love to do using the clear heavy overlays and a little bit of paint. I love creating my own backgrounds. So are you ready to get started.
Here are a few materials you will need to get started: new clear heavy overlay, paint and ruler for creating the background.
Note: the clear overlays have a plastic film on each side be sure to peel them off before stamping.
 
And extra materials for finishing the page: birds on a wire, all mixed up, big vintage circle, washi tape, kraft cardstock stickers.
I have used 1 ½ clear overlays and trim to measure 4” x 6” – total of 9 sheets.
Once trimmed lay out on scrap paper squeeze some paint on to a scrap piece of card. Run the ruler’s edge thru the paint.
Now just randomly stamp over all the sheets.
 

Allow all the stamped sheets to dry and arrange when finished. Grab those printed overlay off cuts and slide under the stamped overlays.
Adhere your stamped sheets in place. Add a few strips of washi tape randomly and then a few little machine stitches here and there. Another option is to used staples or glue.

Once you have the background secure, you can continue to build your layers with more overlays.
 

That’s what I really love about the hambly overlays is the building of overlays and seeing all the different layers gel as one.

Cookie Fellows by Kirsty

Hello, and a happy new year to you!

As well as being the start of a new year, January and February involve more birthdays among my family and friends than any other time of the year. Inspired by some favourite Hambly rub-ons, these dashingly handsome cookies are going to be my contribution to at least a couple of the upcoming celebrations. I’m hoping they’ll provide both a silly-but-fun talking-point for adults and a cute party favour for children.
Supply list:

• Cookies (see recipe link below)
• Lolly or popsicle sticks
• Chocolate
• Clear acetate
• Marker pen
• Scissors
• Hambly Rub-ons (Moustaches, Stitches and Hearts)
• Felt
• Glue

Step 1:  Mix up a batch of plain sugar cookies, either following your favourite recipe or mine.   Roll out the dough so it’s fairly thick, and cut into circles. Carefully push a lolly or popsicle stick into one side of each circle. You ideally need to slide it at least a third of the way through the cookie-dough circle. Place each cookie with stick onto a tray, and bake according to the recipe. Allow to cool completely.


Step 2: If your baking is anything like mine, the cookies won’t be perfectly round when they come out of the oven. That’s fine – perfection isn’t essential here. Place a piece of clear acetate over your first cookie and trace the shape through with marker pen. Cut out, snipping just inside the traced line. Now, rub-on a moustache near the bottom of the acetate.


Step 3: Melt some dark chocolate (use a microwave or place a bowl over a pan of boiling water). Take the same cookie and add small blobs at either side to make eyes, and two dots in the centre for a nose.


Step 4: Quickly press your acetate down on top, so the moustache sits just below the eyes and nose. As the chocolate cools and sets, it should hold the acetate circle neatly in place over the front of the cookie.
Tip:  Try adding a few extra blobs of chocolate to the back of the acetate, behind the moustache. It will hold the acetate in place a little more securely, while being completely invisible under the rub-on.

Step 5: Cut out a section from the Stitches or Hearts rub-on, and fix into place to decorate the stick.


Step 6: Take a scrap of felt and cut out a bowtie shape. Glue to the top of the stick, above the rub-on detail.


Step 7: Display, eat and enjoy - just remember to let your guests know they should peel off the acetate cover first!
Tip: To turn the cookies into take-home party favours, follow steps 1-5, as above. Then, slip each one into a clear plastic bag, and tie shut with a length of ribbon near the top of the stick instead of gluing on a felt bowtie.

Hi! Pearl here to share a fun tutorial perfect for New Year's! I created an interactive layout to store letters my then boyfriend (now fiance) and I wrote to each other on New Year's Eve. It's sorta this tradition we started and now I have an album set aside just to store our annual letters.

Some techniques here:
Two pockets have been created by sewing the Hambly screen print to a piece of cardstock.
In the first pocket, I put sequins to further create a festive feel.
he second pocket was created by cutting a slit following the banner curve in the screen print and it holds the letters.
Supplies:
Hambly Banners overlay
Hambly Mini Brocade overlay
Bazzill dotted swiss card stock
Crop-a-dile small hole punch
Craft knife
Sequins

Directions:
1. On the Banners overlay, follow one of the banner rows with a craft knife and then punch small holes at the start and end of the slit
2. Then align the overlay over the cardstock, sew a pocket to fit your own letters, more photos, or any other keepsakes
3. Then simply sew 3 of the 4 edges together, sprinkle some sequins in, and finish sewing the 4th edge.
4. Above the pocket, I added a small stack of mixed overlays and white tissue paper, and topped it off with a photo of my fiance and I.

These are some of my favorite techniques and one of my favorite traditions, so I hope you'll give them a try! Happy New Year!
