These days I am storing a lot of data on my phone. I use it for my calendar, notes, things I want to quickly record. But sometimes I want to do a little sketch or just want to write something down with a pen. I thought I would make a little book that would easily fit into my purse for such occasions.

Gather these items along with a paper trimmer and bone folder:



Take the transparency (will be the cover) and trim to 3"x6".



Fold 5 notecards that measure 3"x5" in half and get a crisp crease using a bone folder. Insert them into one another creating a little book/signature.

Fold the transparency and using the bone folder, crease it twice - once at the 2.5" mark and once again for the fold over.



Add staples to the spine.



Punch out 2 circles and adhere them together.





Hold the circle in place to decide where you want it, punch the hole and set the eyelet.







Take the twine and wrap it around the eyelet and make a knot. This will be used to close your little book.





Decorate your cover and enjoy!

Ali Edwards December Daily 2011

I'm sure most of you are familiar with Ali's December Daily Project.It's a great way to document all your fun holiday traditions and memories during the month of December.  It is good to start to build your book now, so it's ready once December starts.  Then all you have to do is add your pictures and journaling each day.

Ali uses a lot of Hambly overlays for the foundation of the book.
We made a special section on our website showing the overlays she uses, plus a few extra that also work well. Here a link to our store where you can buy the overlays she uses, plus more to fill up your book. Hope you all have fun creating this project this year! 

 

Custom Shadow Box and X-ACTO Giveaway!

X-ACTO recently contacted us to do a giveaway here and try out a few new products.  Since the X-ACTO knife is one of my favorite tools I said "Yes!"

We use X-ACTO knives all the time in the Art Department at Hambly. I also use them at home for different projects. (such as helping to remove stabilizer backing when doing embroidery, and cleaning the kiln wash off the back of my glass pendants after I fire them. Plus my husband is always stealing them for his hobbies. He likes the grip on the designer series.) You can see more ways to use them in the X-ACTO Creative Knife Uses Guide. 

Of course they are a must for any papercrafter or scrapbooker. Here's an easy home decor project I created with just a few supplies using the X-ACTO knife. 

Supplies:

• Shadow box (this one is martha stewart crafts)
• Washi Tape
• Assorted chipboard letters
• X-ACTO (I prefer the retractable knife now that there's a baby in the house)

1. Using a mix of chipboad letters pick what you want to cover in tape.

2. Cover the front of the letters with washi tape. 

3. Flip the letter over and use the X-ACTO to follow the sides of the chipboard and cut the washi tape. 

4. Do the same thing and use the X-ACTO to trim off all the extra washi tape. 
5. I applied a layer of crystal glaze to help seal the letters. 

6. Glue the letters to the outside of the shadow box, and then decorate the inside. You can use this technique to cover any peices of chipboard you have with paper, or washi tape. Then add the custom made letters to any project or layout.
