Summer 2011 Relase for Sale at our Store & a giveaway!

Hi, it's Amy and I am here to show you how this page came together. Lately my favorite 3 things to include on a layout are misting, stitching and washi tape.

I started off my misting the kraft cardstock and then adding some patterned paper and the birdcage sticker.


After adding the woodgrain paper, I added the photos and washi tape.

 

Using a pencil, I drew the title to be stitched.




After embroidering and adding some embellishments, the page is complete:

I've been inspired to do more art journaling as well and love to combine my favorite Hambly rub ons, stickers and transparencies onto the pages. The embellishments complement the colors and textures perfectly.

Today I wanted to share with you a couple of projects using Hambly overlays and how to create a layout and card that literally shakes.

Step 1 Cut your base cardstock, pattern paper (hambly couture) and overlay(sweet tooth overlay) to the size needed. The pattern paper and overlay are the same size. 
Step 2 Stick your pattern paper to the cardstock, lay the overlay on top of the pattern paper then using your sewing machine, stitch around the edge of the overlay on 3 sides.
Step 3 Take some sequins or in this case tiny beads and push some under the overlay
Step 4 Complete the card by sewing up the last side.
STEP 5 Embellish your card using a Hambly sewing room sticker and some ric rac.

You can also do this on a bigger scale on a layout. Here I have created the same effect but this time using sequins instead of beads. I have added some Washi tape as well on the stitching for some extra strength. Your layout will literally shake like a shaker box!

I remember back in grade school the first time I was handed scissors, a few sheets of colored construction paper and shown how to cut strips and then weave them into a new sheet of paper. That was truly magic for me as kid, and still is a paper treatment that I love many years later. With the Hambly Washi tapes being so fun, colorful and in different widths, it was a must do to try and weave them to create a new background.

 

I started by picking a few colors and widths and prepared a card base. I started with a card so that I could get the hang of it before trying it on a larger size canvas.

In the top left corner start with two pieces that are the height of the card and one that is the width. Place the piece that goes the width down first, the first of the height pieces over the top of it and then place the second underneath.

Continue to add pieces to the width and alternate over and under, as well as adding pieces to the height and weaving those through as well.

To make it a little easier, I would use the sticky part of the washi to loop over the top of the pattern and keep it out of the way while I would add the next row.

Finish up by sticking the last edges down and then adding the desired finishing touches.

I stitched around the edges, die cut some shapes and added a rub-on from the summer release that was the perfect touch. A fun and easy card, now that I know the pattern and how to make things going a little more smoothly I am ready to tackle doing this for a background on a layout.
