All about the shoes

I can't believe how fast Adelle is growing already. I took these pics last week, it was her first time wearing shoes. (...which only lasted 10 mins). I thought it would be fun to scrapbook them using the Washi Tape banners, which Leena demonstrated how to make in the previous blog post. Such a fun technique. I used a fiskars punch for the scalloped pennants and all Hambly products on the layout.

I simply love using the Hambly Washi Tapes on most of my projects. I love the finished look the washi tapes produced whether used on its own or with other materials or products.

I'm going to show you how I made a mini banner on my layout using the Washi Tapes.




To make this simple and easy mini banner, you first need to gather a few basic supplies such as Hambly Washi Tapes of your choice, twine, light colored cardstock, scissor and glue.




Step 1 - I picked out 3 of my favourite Washi Tapes with different mix of designs and colors to create a nice contrast. Next, tape them across a white cardstock or any light colored cardstock, layering them on top of each other. I chose to use a light base cardstock so that the colors and designs of the tapes will stand out.

 



Step 2 - Fold the cardstock with the tapes adhered on it just above the first tape as shown in the picture


Step 3 - Cut out a few triangular shapes from the cardstock taped with Washi Tapes.



Step 4 - As I wanted a variety of banner shapes, I repeated Step 1 with my other 3 favorite Hambly Washi Tapes.




Step 5 - Cut out a few rectangular shapes and snip off one end (not the folded part) like you cut the tail of a ribbon.



Step 6 - Now you have 2 different shapes of mini banner to play with. String them together alternately with a twine on the folded end of the banner and glue to secure them together.



And the mini banner is ready to grace any of your projects like what I did here on my layout!






For a more fun look, you can also add alphabets, buttons and other types of embellishment on the banner itself.

Hello, it's Larissa here to show you a cool technique to use in your layouts. It´s all about using a solvent (acetone nail polish remover) to transfer Hambly´s overlays onto paper. The Birds on Wire were transferred in the layout below.

I know you´ve seen this technique before at Hambly´s blog here when our guest designer Giuliana Primavera made a very cool mini album cover by transferring Hambly´s silk-screened paper onto fabric but I thought it would be nice to demonstrate how you can also use it to also transfer the overlays onto paper.
In fact, you can try using solvents to transfer onto a lot of things. Solvents such as Acetone Nail Polish Remover, Polymer medium and blenders can change the make-up of an image by breaking it down and allowing image to transfer. Here I decided to use Acetone Nail Polish Remover because you can easily find it I and it´s perfect unless you´re sensitive to the smell!


Materials needed:




White cardstock (avoid the textured ones)
Brush
Acetone Nail Polish Remover
Hambly Overlays
Roller


Step 1.  Select the images you want to transfer and your background and apply one coat of nail polish remover onto white cardstock.



Step 2. Quickly place the overlay ink-side down onto the background. Be careful not to move the image and using the roller, lightly smooth down the overlay to transfer the ink.




Step 3. You can repeat these steps as many times you want using different patterns.





You can also try transferring more than one image onto the same paper, working with as many layers as you wish.

DT Tutorial by Kim - Using Rub-ons as a resist

Rub ons resist Did you know using hambly rubons and mist creates a resist effect!

It’s easy,  I would love to show you how.

Step 1 Rub your chosen  rub on  onto your cardstock (I have used some gorgeous yellow flowers and feathers rubons)   and then choose a contrasting mist colour and spray gently over the rubon area.  Then stand your  cardstock up to allow for some drippage.Step 2 Take a wet one wipe and gently wipe away the mist from the rubon, this is where the resist happens, taking care to wipe all mist off, now the background is coloured and the rubon remains clear of mist.Now complete your layout around the misted area, take note I have used part of the actual packaging label rub on on my layout as well!Kim

I live in the Northwest, and we’re having one of the coolest summers I’ve experienced since I’ve lived here.   I know that’s quite the opposite for the rest of our country, so here’s a very simple craft project to help you beat the heat!
It’s an easy project for all ages.   Also, a very inexpensive favor for summer weddings!

To begin, gather the following tools and materials: 

An assortment of coordinating overlays
A brad fastener
A tassel

Paper trimmer
Small hole-punch

Use your paper trimmer to cut ten pieces of overlay measuring two inches wide by five inches long.

Next, take your hole punch and punch a small, centered hole, roughly a half inch from the bottom of each strip.

Thread your brad through the holes in your overlay strips.

Tie a knot in the top of your tassel’s string and put in under the head of the brad.   Fold open the prongs of the brad to secure the tassel and overlays.

Fan open your fan and fan away!
