our favorite pens & adhesives....
I figured i do a little post on what are favorite products are to use with our overlays. I get asked this question all the time.
For adhesives we like:
*Mini Glue Dots, (you can hide them under the printed part of the transparency and pretty strong hold) ---this is my personal favorite!!
*UHU glue roller (easy to use, mostly transparent, good hold)
*Tombo Mono permanent adhesive roller (easy to use, mostly transparent, good hold)
*Duck Easy Stick permanent adhesive roller (easy to use, mostly transparent, good hold)
*Vellum Glue Dots (you can barely see them, but is a lighter hold)
*Crop & Glue by Glue Arts - transparent vellum adhesive (good hold- put on overlay directly-save $1 if you purchase through Crop and Glue )
*V2 vellum spray by Helmar (just be sure to spray on paper - not transparency directly, a light hold)
*brads, eyelets & staples - always works great
Pens -perfect for drawing/journalling on the overlay:
*Sakura Identipen (transparent)
*Sakura Glaze Pens- the writing look embossed!! (you can also wipe it off before it dries, if you mess up your handwriting)
*Sakura Souffle (very cool opaque colors, kinda 3d looking)
*American Crafts galaxy marker & slick writer
*permanent Sharpies
I also love ranger Dabbers & Alcohol inks! I use them on the overlays all the time. You can use the Dabbers to ink the edges of the overlays, or put under the overlays and use like an adhesive, such a cool effect. Staz-On ink pads also works good to ink the edges of the overlays, if you use with a stamp, you just have to be careful not to smear as you stamp it. Also when you are punching holes in the overlays, the crop-a-dile or nicer hole-punches work best. Since our overlays are thicker, the cheap punches, don't always punch through. (yeah we learned this the hard way during one of our make-n-takes, don't get the $1 office depot punches.....)
What are you guys using that you like for our overlays and other Hambly products? I love to hear what your favorites are.

I so love love love the rub ons! But I have a problem with them though.. I don't want to use them!!! I think I have about 6 packets of them and I just keep admiring them instead of using them *LOL*. They are so so gorgeous!

I use just about everything that you listed ,, with the exception of the alcohol inks. Haven't ventured there yet. I also like to put rhinestones on them ,, you have to have the bling!! I do like to staple them though!

I use Glossy Accents as adhesive, it dries totally clear. I put dots behind the decorative parts of the overlay. And stitching!

I use Glossy Accents to stick mine on too. Sometimes I'm careful and put it behind the patterns but as I'm usually using mini graph (I use it on practically every LO!) I just smear some around on the back in a very lazy manner. Hey, it's clear, you can't see it lol!

glossy accents, fabri-tac, and the atg gun == all great adhesives for the transparencies
american crafts slick writer is the BEST pen i have found for them. (especially outlining. yum!)

I love to use KI Gloo- it's perfect for holding down the overlays... really strong and you can't see it at all!

I LOVE to use paintmarkers like Posca pens or Marabu (dont know if you have them back there) Also like to use the indentipens for black writing and the signo one for white. For glue.. i just use dubbelside tape behind the print, or Tackly glue.. when you smudge out the tackly glue in total, its transparant as well.. Also love tho stick an edge of the transparant behind a photo or sticker!
*hugs*

For my wedding I used the vintage patchwork overlays to make my table numbers. I bought shimmery white ink and stamped on the table numbers. Then I put metallic gold cardstock behind the overlay and attached it with a gold brad. I received so many complements on that.

I run my clear embellies through my Xyron machines. It's edge to edge and totally clear, so I don't have to hide anything. You don't even notice it's there

Just got back from CKU-Houston! Got a chance to play with lots of overlays and grunge boards in Tim Holtz's class! Wow! I still love the effect of Ranger Dabbers (all kinds of colors!) behind the overlays & use them as adhesives at the same time!

Allison: Thanks a lot for answering my May e-mail. All these ideas are very helpful. Also received an article from Scrapbook.com, which helped a little. I am anxious to start using these products. Here in Puerto Rico we dont have many scrapbooking stores around, and yours is a special material, so the user needs some training to start!
